Clinical supervision
Clinical Supervision is a formal, collaborative process in which two or more professionals meet to discuss the clinical content and process of the Supervisee’s work and is an important and integral part of Dramatherapy practice. It is intended to help Supervisees maintain ethical and professional standards of practice and to enhance critical reflection and creativity. The British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth)
As a CAST trained and BADth registered clinical supervisor, I work in an inclusive, integrative and flexible way, aiming to build a safe, non-judgmental, reflective and supportive space with my supervisees.
I am able to supervise (clinically and non-clinically) all those who work in the helping professions including therapists, counsellors, nurses, social workers, carers, teachers and teaching assistants. I can also support professionals who are based outside of the UK.
Working psychodynamically, I use various creative art techniques (such as role-reversal) as well as discussion so as to enable my supervisees to explore and reflect on their clinical (or non-clinical) work, their conscious and unconscious processes and the relationship dynamics of their client. In the case of a supervisee being more comfortable working less directly, I adopt a more symbolic approach and use various resources e.g., objects, fabric, instruments, images, stories and online apps.
I also aim to make my supervision sessions safe enough for supervisees to feel able to explore any personal issues arising as a result of their clinical work. I emphasise the importance of supervisees developing resilience and looking after themselves so as to prevent work overload and burnout.
I can offer consultation sessions to those who need guidance and support in areas such as CV's, job applications, job interviews, setting up therapy work in education and working online.

I am grateful for my brief supervision with S as it had been really helpful in me getting things off my chest and to be able to process and find the right strategies to deal with challenges that happened at school. I was grateful that S helped me at times and challenged me to understand what was possibly happening for each child who were difficult to manage, using creative tools which really helped me as a visual learner. The supervision sessions with S has helped me to gain more self awareness and ability to reflect more on my actions, thoughts and behaviours towards the children. (A. Simpson, primary school TA).
